It can feel a bit intimidating jumping into the world of AI photo editing, especially if you’re a control freak (like most of us are!) and don’t see how anyone or anything can do it the same way you do!
Well, I’m going to suggest something that might sound crazy – AI can do it even FASTER and BETTER than you.
Life Before AI Photo Editing
Before I started using Imagen a couple years ago, I had numerous sets of presets (both purchased, and self-created) that I would go through, clicking each one, trying to find something that would get me CLOSE to what I wanted. But none of them were ever just right, and I ended up with multiple versions of tweaked presets; PresetA-v2, PresetA-v3-outdoor, PresetA-v4-studio-grey-backdrop, etc. They ALWAYS required extra work, and presets could never adjust for the exposure and colour balance of individual images.
This process would take hours for each session, from finding a decent “starting place” preset, to tweaking each image individually. It meant many late nights at the computer, missing out on family time because it felt like my “To Do” List was overwhelming.
How Is AI Editing Different From Presets?
The biggest difference between AI editing and traditional presets is adaptability. Presets are one-size-fits-all. They apply the same adjustments to every photo, regardless of lighting, exposure, or white balance. That means you still end up fine-tuning each image to get it just right. AI editing, on the other hand, analyzes each individual photo and applies edits based on its unique characteristics and your personal style (if you’re using a trained profile). It’s not just slapping a look on top – it’s making smart, context-aware decisions, image by image. The result? A far more consistent, personalized edit with way less effort.
First Impressions with Imagen AI Editing
When I started my free trial with Imagen, I immediately started uploading catalogs of RAW images that I had edited, to train my Personal Profile. *This isn’t the only way to get started, so don’t let this part scare you off!

You can now upload a folder of images, and receive xmp files so the edits can be viewed in ACR. If you do use Lightroom though, you’ll choose your catalog in Imagen, and the folder you want to edit. You can also choose segments by any of the ratings you’ve applied in Lr. And when it’s done editing, it’ll open up your catalog again for you to see the edits pop in (my favourite part!)
- Personal AI Profile – upload 3000 raw images you have edited, so it can learn your style
- Lite Personal AI Profile – upload a preset you use (purchased or created yourself)
- Talent AI Profiles – profiles already created and perfected, ready for you to use
- Profile Shop – purchase profiles created by Imagen Ambassadors so you can edit like your favourite photographer
Why Try It Now?
If you’re on the fence, the free trial is a no-brainer. You don’t have to fully commit upfront – just experiment with a test gallery and see what Imagen can do. Most users are surprised at how quickly they start trusting the AI’s judgment. It’s like having a virtual editing assistant who actually gets your style. And if something isn’t quite right in an image or two, you can always tweak the results in Lightroom, just as you normally would.

Imagen is crushing the AI photo editing scene, and now they are currently working on perfecting AI editing for video, which is very exciting for all the videographers, or photographers who like to dabble in video.
